"If you like Foreign Oil, you're going to love Foreign Food”

Here is an article worth reading that discuses how water restrictions are affecting California growers.  It’s quite alarming and I think it affects all of us.  (even if you are dry-land farmers growing commodity crops)

Farming and Agriculture Blog 2009

Alex Tiller - Thursday, January 01, 2009

Well, Christmas and New Years have past, so it’s about time for me to get back to work! I have a lot of exciting posts planned for 2009, on agricultural topics ranging from ethanol and biofuel production to greenhouse hydroponics, from soil management to using the Internet to market your farm produce more effectively, from making the right pesticide selections to choosing the right farm equipment.

Many of you have told me that you have websites for your farms or agricultural operations, a development that I heartily encourage – there’s nothing like the Internet for expanding the marketing opportunities for a farm. I found a nifty little tool the other day that you can put on your website, or include as a tag in your e-mails, that lets people know how far they are from your location – it’s very handy for people promoting their locally-grown produce.

The tool is called GeoBadger, and you can put it on your website or your emails in literally 30 seconds – it’s that easy. Just visit the GeoBadger site and enter your zip code and they’ll provide you with an HTML snippet that you can put on web pages or in e-mail – anyone visiting your page or reading your e-mail will see exactly how far they are from you. It’s easy to use and completely free. Enjoy it!
